ZTE makes two new budget phones official for prepaid carriers

Share

ZTE Grand X 3 HandheldZTE has announced two new phones at CES 2016 headed for prepaid US carriers, so don’t expect them to compete with some of the other flagships that have been announced in the past couple of days. The Grand X3 is on its way to Cricket, while the Avid Plus is slated for T-Mobile.

The Grand X3 is a $129 phone with a quad-core Snapdragon processor and a 720p 5.5-inch display, complete with 16 GB of storage (plus microSD card slot) and an 8 megapixel camera. It’s running Android 5.1 out of the box, and for a prepaid phone, doesn’t look too shabby.

The other device, the Avid Plus, is a little cheaper at $114. It sports a sub-HD display, although its a little smaller at only 5 inches, and is powered by a slower Qualcomm processor. It also only has 8 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM, so its definitely the weaker of the two, but that’s reflected in the price tag.

It’s not exciting, but the budget market is important to tons of consumers and especially important to many phone manufacturers.

Be sure to keep up with the rest of our CES 2016 coverage.
