Two years ago, Google let go of Motorola by selling the beloved company to Lenovo. The deal didn’t become official until October 2014, and Motorola’s new parent didn’t really make any sudden dramatic moves likely because multiple devices were still in the pipeline. But in 2016, Lenovo has not been shy about changing the way Motorola operates. Motorola will be going away while the Moto brand lives on through devices also stamped with Lenovo’s name. And that big move is expected to be noticeable later this year when Lenovo pushes out those first Moto devices with their name on them.

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang commented on the first Moto phone to be released this summer.

Consumers in the United States can expect to see a “more innovative, more attractive” phone from Lenovo under the Moto brand to launch in July 2016. This would be the same time of year used by Motorola last year to introduce the Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Play, and Moto G (2015). While many people consider those devices attractive, Lenovo apparently thinks they’re due for cosmetic changes and additional innovation.

Yang is also fully prepared to see Apple’s market share shrink:

“Apple already has more than 50% share in the U.S. Can you expect more? I don’t think so. I think Android will take more share.”

Internationally, the Lenovo CEO said the company will remain focused on penetrating emerging markets. India and countries in Africa and the Middle East are among Lenovo’s top targets.
