LG G5 will have a very different battery compartment, says report

In the current world of smartphones, when it comes to batteries there are two kinds of devices – phones with removable batteries, and phones without removable batteries. More often than not, phones without removable batteries are designed as such so that they can have a metal unibody. Naturally, on the other end of the scale, phones with removable batteries can’t use metal and generally use some form of plastic. However, it is rumoured that the LG G5 is going to have the best of both worlds, combining a metal unibody and a removable battery.

To do this, the LG G5 is allegedly going to have a fairly large detachable section at the bottom of the device – as per the image at the top of this article. This allows the battery to slide in and out of the phone and be swapped out whenever necessary, and the phone still maintains an elegant look thanks to its all-metal top half. It’s an intriguing solution, and one which is likely to keep the removable battery supporters happy for yet another year if this does turn out to be true. It will be interesting to see whether other companies will return to removable batteries if LG‘s gamble pays off.
