Google I/O 2016 is booked for May 18-20 in Mountain View

Google I/O has always been one of the more anticipated annual events for the Android faithful, and our good friend Google CEO Sundar Pichai (it’s a one-sided friendship) has just announced on his Twitter account the dates for Google I/O 2016. While the dates themselves aren’t particularly noteworthy, the location of the event is, with Pichai confirming that the event will be held in Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View – if anybody’s wondering why that’s unusual, it’s because it’s basically an open air theatre.

It’s been suggested that this location is being used because Google is going to be demo-ing drones, automated cars and lots of other things that require lots of space, but presumably Google will be making many more announcements of a software nature. Chief among these should be the announcement of Android N, and while its name will remain anonymous till around September, it will be exciting to hear what Google has in store this year. Pichai signed off his tweet with “more details soon” so no doubt the next few months will yield more details about the event.

What do you think about Google I/O 2016 being held at an outdoor location? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
