On Thursday, Tim McDonough at Qualcomm announced via Twitter that the Snapdragon 820 would be debuting on November 10th (tomorrow). This is the chip that will probably be the market’s benchmark for top-of-the-line processing power for 2016, and its forerunner, the Snapdragon 810, was plagued with rumors of overheating.

The rumor mill was in full churn for most of the year: “The 810 runs a little hot.” “No, the 810 is just fine.” “No, the 810 sets phones on fire.” “Well, that may be, but it’s a controlled burn.” “No, the 810 is literally the surface of the sun, sell all of your stock in Qualcomm immediately!” “Okay, can we please all just take a reasonable perspective on a product that is still in development?”

The Snapdragon 820 was announced in August, but we haven’t gotten a whole lot of specific details about it since then. It is speculated that the Snapdragon 820 will be powering the Samsung Galaxy S7. If you’re intrigued, McDonough will be fielding questions starting tomorrow at 12:15 pm EST, shortly after the 820’s debut.

Since debates about the Snapdragon 810’s inherent flammability have not yet been put to rest, we expect that a fair number of the questions McDonough will need to field will have to do with the issue of overheating.

As for the actual specs of the Snapdragon 820, we’ll have those for you tomorrow after the release. Be sure to check back.
