Samsung started mass production of LPDDR4 RAM modules for mobile deivices

One of the most important features to come with Android 5.0 Lollipop was its support for 64-bit chipsets. Supporting 64-bit chipsets will enable manufactures to produce devices that have 4+ GB of RAM. We have always wondered when smartphones and tablets would get over the 3 GB of RAM plateau… well that will almost be assured for 2015.

Samsung has begun mass production of 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM modules that are made with Samsung’s 20nm process. LPDDR4 will be more powerful and more efficient than the LPDDR3 modules by using 40 percent less power and having a data I/O rate of up to 3.200 Mbps. This will lead the way for UHD video recording and 20+ megapixel cameras.

Since Samsung has begun the production of these modules, they expect an early 2015 release. This could mean the first smartphone of 2015 to sport 4 GB of RAM could be Samsung’s own Galaxy S6. If not the Galaxy S6, then for sure the Galaxy Note 5 will come with the latest DRAM technology.

This is a big step for mobile devices and already a big step for 2015.
