Amazon’s app store has been trying to compete with Google since the launching of the Kindle Fire series. Recently, Amazon released a new version of their app on the Google Play Store that had their own app store built in to it. This app within an app has been live on the Play Store since September 9, 2014, but as since been taken down as of December 11, 2014.

The app broke Google’s policies which they updated on September 25th. The app was available via direct link, but it has since been taken down as well. If you were to look on the Play Store, you’ll find Amazon Shopping app. It is essentially the same application without the Amazon App Store built in to it.Google Play

TechCrunch reached out to Amazon about this ordeal and Amazon had this to say:

We launched a new Amazon App for Android Phones on September 9 that provides an award-winning mobile shopping experience, enables customers to discover and purchase all of Amazon’s digital catalog, and provides customers access to the Prime Instant Video player and unlimited streaming of over 40,000 movies and TV episodes. Google subsequently changed their Developer Distribution Agreement on September 25. As a result, we removed the app from Google Play and published the Amazon Shopping app. Customers who want the best Amazon experience on their Android phone, including access to Prime Instant Video and Amazon’s entire digital catalog, can still get the Amazon App for Android Phones at amazon.com/androidapp.

If the Amazon App with its own built in store is a must for you, you can find it on Amazon’s website or via APK Mirror.
