The National Football League is a multi-billion dollar machine that keeps growing. The NFL agreed to a deal with Facebook that provides the social network with an abundance of video content covering highlights, fantasy football tips, and news from all thirty-two teams. The videos will arrive on Tuesday, December 30.

The videos seen on a user’s News Feed will be followed by advertisements from Verizon. Because the advertisements are being played after videos, a “presented by Verizon” will be placed below. The carrier is actually paying for all of the advertisements and the revenue will be split between the NFL and Facebook; however, The Wall Street Journal reports that the financial terms were not disclosed.

It is noted that Facebook is looking into composing similar deals with additional partners. Facebook would like to become a hub for online video content (like YouTube) because of the money behind advertisements. If there is one source of content to allow growth, the NFL is it.

Partnering with Facebook to supply video content is one of the rare cases where the NFL is not pushing one of its own various platforms. The NFL watches for social media for clips (usually from Vine) to take down and it does not operate a YouTube channel. Content one would expect to find on social media will now be directly funneled into Facebook’s News Feed.
