We’ve already seen Google give the lowdown on the incoming Material Design update to Gmail, officially known as Gmail 5.0 for Android, and now it’s available to us all. As expected, it gives the Gmail app a whole new UI, with Material Design aspects of course, and as it was reported before, the app is also able to add email accounts from Yahoo and Outlook as well. On first open, the app will ask if you want to add additional email accounts and you get all the familiar options of enabling/disabling notifications and so forth.
It was also rumoured that the new Gmail would be able to add Exchange email accounts, essentially taking over all duties of the stock Email app, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case yet – or at least, I can’t work out how to do it. The full list of changes, as per the Play Store, is as follows:
Full version number: 5.0 (1520254)
- Full Material Design makeover
- Tons of UI changes
- Lots more to discover.
- New Home Screen Icon (will be updating it on here shortly)
Presumably the update is rolling out to everyone from today, but if you need to get your Gmail 5.0 fix now, we have the APK available for download down below:
