Sony Xperia Z3v, Z2 and Z2 Tablet Now Support Chromecast Screen Casting

Share

The screen casting function on the Chromecast is a great feature that allows you to cast the screen of your device to your TV. It is a great feature that works pretty darn well for most. When the feature rolled out only a handful of devices officially supported it. You had the Nexus line, The Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3 Note 10 a couple LG devices and The HTC One M7.

A few new devices have been added to the list that should make a few of you smile. The Verizon Sony Xperia Z3v, the Sony Xperia Z2 and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet can now all cast their screens to the Chromecast. Apparently earlier in the month the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact were added in too. I would imagine that rolls over to the T-Mobile Xperia Z3, but I don’t have one sitting here to test that out with.

If your device isn’t on the list of officially supported devices, that doesn’t mean you are a lost cause. There has been an experimental apk in the works from XDA developer r3pwn for a number of months that might just enable the function for you. It isn’t without its risk as you do need to have root access to your device and be sporting Android 4.4.2 or higher. I gave it a run on my T-Mobile Xperia Z a while back and had great success. His list of devices that are confirmed to work with the simple APK install includes the Moto X (2013 and 2014), Moto G 92013 $2014) a few Kindle Fire devices, the HTC One M8, Oppo Find 7 and a few DROIDS.

If you have one of the newly added Xperia devices, open up your Chromecast app on your device and see if the Sceen Cast option appears. It might take a few days for all devices to see the option, and possibly a reboot, but at least you know it will be there in an official capacity soon.
