As Google prepares to unleash the Nexus 6 on the world, one of the changes we will see with this device is Google’s move to position it against competitor’s flagship devices. Along with more of an effort to load the device up with top of the line hardware, buyers will also pay a higher cost to get the Nexus 6. This means users will be expecting better performance from the smartphone including one feature that has not been a strong suit for the Nexus line, the camera. When Google’s own Matias Duarte decided to post some Halloween jack-o-lantern pics taken with the Nexus 6, we definitely wanted to check them out.

For the Nexus 6, Motorola went with the same Sony 13MP sensor used in the Moto X (2014). This same sensor is also used by LG in both the LG G3 and the LG G2 and by Samsung in the Galaxy S4. Performance should be comparable to those devices in both daylight and low light settings.

Duarte, via his Google+ page, posted a couple pics of the carved pumpkins waiting at his house when he returned from some recent travels. This is a pretty typical activity we could expect to see from smartphone users, so the resulting pics may give us a good idea of what to expect from the Nexus 6. The images appear to be pretty good quality, picking up lots of detail in the lit areas, including surface details where the light from the jack-o-lanterns reflect off the sidewalk. One of the images has some brighter indoor light intruding into the frame and can see the sensor did a pretty good job of handling the different levels across the scene.

What do you think of the images?
