Last Thursday Apple released iOS 7.0.2, which corrected a glaring security issue: users could bypass the lock screen passcode. Unfortunately, some folks have run into trouble with the upgrade. Under certain circumstances, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches have been left unable to work.
If your machine isn’t working right after the 7.0.2 upgrade, please follow these steps to restore it to operating condition:
- Make sure you’ve updated to iTunes 11.1
- Plug your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into iTunes
- Agree to trust the computer if iOS 7 asks
- Backup your device, if you don’t want a clean install
- Click “Restore”
- Let iTunes download and re-install iOS 7 on your device
If iTunes says there’s no newer version to update to, you can force the issue by putting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode after the backup, then doing the restore. DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode will make sure you download and install the latest release version of iOS off of Apple’s servers.
