How to configure and start using the new Camera app in iOS 7

iOS 7 has brought with it some dramatic changes to several native apps and the Camera app is no exception. Outside of being able to take still photos, panoramas, and record video just like you could before, you’ve got some additional options to choose from now. The way you switch between modes has also been changed up a bit.

  • Launch the Camera app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad
  • By default, the regular photo mode will be selected. Simply swipe your finger to the left or right in order to toggle between modes.
  • That’s all there is to it. You can choose from a standard photo, a square photo, video mode, and pano mode. Square photos are great if you plan on uploading the photo to Instagram since you can be positive you’re getting everything in the frame you need to leaving no need to crop things out later.

  • Launch the Settings app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
  • Scroll down and tap on Photos & Camera.
  • Scroll down one more time and under the Camera section, turn the option for Grid to the On position.
  • We aren’t quite sure why Apple moved this out of the actual Camera app in iOS 7 but if you want grid lines, you’ll have to pop into Settings in order to enable it now.

  • Launch the Camera app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
  • In the top center of the screen tap on HDR Off in order to toggle it on.
  • You will now notice that HDR On appears in orange writing indicating that it is now active for any photos you take.

  • Launch the Camera app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap on the filter button in the lower right hand corner of the Camera app.
  • Now tap on the filter that you would like in order to a preview. If you like it, go ahead and snap a photo. If you don’t, tap the filter button again in order to select a different one.
  • Filters can be applied to regular photos and square photos but not panos or videos.
