APPTEASERS is a collection of apps and games that are new to Android, recently updated, discounted, etc. Whatever the case, we think they’re worth exploring and are willing to bet that many of you would enjoy a few of them.
We understand that we won’t get every single app that crosses our path but we hope to filter things a bit and pass them along to you, dear reader. What you’ll find below is a quick plug for apps and games, occasionally using the developer’s own words to describe the title.
Note that this column is not intended to be a list of “must have” apps but more of a random assortment of titles you might not already know about. No, these are not always new titles. Yes, they can be from big name developers and little indie teams as well.
Dead on Arrival 2
Go it alone or as part of a team in 4-man multiplayer mode as you take on the onslaught of undead. You’ll put your graphics to the test so be sure to use a current generation device but you’ll love the 3D graphics, weapons, mods, and more. Have an NVIDIA Shield? Here’s your next game! FREE
Keep an eye on your every move, whether it’s walking, biking, running, or using transportation. You’ll get a much better sense for how mobile and active your are (or aren’t) and whether you could do better. Tracks locations like work, the gym, Starbucks, and puts them into a nice story-like plot of activities. FREE
A brand new 5.0 release (goes live today) sees a visual punch-up and includes a new “My Vibe” section. Pick the mood you’re in or the current activity and you’ll find curated playlists based on things like exercising, driving, waking up, having coffee, and much more. FREE
Got some really great photos that you’d like to share with the world? Did you know that you could actually license that picture of sushi or those adorable kittens? Indeed, the DOAP market will pay you a royalty every time someone licenses your pictures, even if they were taken using another app. FREE
Find out exactly how fast that 4G LTE network truly is with the official SpeedTest.net app from Ookla. Not only is it incredibly handy and often useful, but the forthcoming 3.0 release looks downright slick. FREE
Share your WiFi connection details with social network friends (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) in exchange for real-world and/or virtual goods. Wanna rack up the hugs or coffees? Share with the whole world and watch your benevolence pay off. FREE
An RPG/puzzler featuring the classic character who seems to pop up in new iterations every few years. Your job is to collect over 400+ cards that feature famous villains like Ultraman Belial, Alien Zarab, Alien Baltan. There are more than 100 missions spread across the game so brush up on those combos. FREE
Incredibly simple to learn but difficult to walk away from, this one features multiple game modes (Attack, Arcade, Time, Hardcore) and minimalist design cues. You’ll be coming back time and again as you seek to best your score and unlock new sets. Old school retro 80′s soundtrack is loads of fun, too. FREE
Plug all of your social network personas into this app and use it as a virtual front page for your online presence. Search, discover, and share with pretty much all of the big players and create a RebelMouse for any topic. FREE
Deer Hunter 2014
Arm yourself with the perfect weapon, upgrade it with scopes and new barrels and other goodies as you’ll be hunting more than 100 animal species. Collect trophies for bagging a deer, of course, but you’ll also be able to gloat on Google Play achievements when you take down a pair of cheetahs. FREE
Kingdom Rush: Frontiers
Who doesn’t love a great tower defense style game? This one is brand new to Android and features 40 different enemies and 18 tower abilities. With more than 70 achievements to unlock there is a seemingly endless replay value. Choose from three game modes and difficulty modes and start upgrading those towers immediately. $2.99
One of the best looking real time strategy games we’ve seen on Android this year, you direct your army by “painting” brush strokes. Play campaigns or try your hand at two other modes (AI Skirmish, Blitz) with four levels of difficulty. Perfect game to complement that Galaxy Note or stylus-based device. $4.99
You Don’t Know Jack
From the immensely popular game in the 90′s comes the official Jackbox game with tons of random questions about pretty much anything. Free to play, you can earn achievements, unlock entirely fake commercials and sponsors, and more. Tired of playing solo? Take on your friends or some complete stranger halfway around the country. FREE
You’ll stop using the home button on your phone once you get this one up and running. Not only can you launch apps and toggle settings, but you can also check out widgets, shortcuts, and DashClock extensions. Everything you need with a slide from the left or right. FREE with 5 day full trial
WWE: John Cena’s Fast Lane
It’s quite a departure from the wrestling stuff we’d expect from WWE; features six different vehicles each with unique profiles. Race against 80 competitors, including 10 “boss” level racers, upgrade your car, and customize with decals and paint. Look for multiplayer mode in the future. FREE
