The Design

Cambridge Audio has stayed with a similar design to its larger siblings in the Minx air series just shrunk it down a little.  The size and weight make it portable enough to throw in your back pack and user anywhere your feet can take you.

The Minx Go, being not very deep, has a rotating leg on the base that you can swivel out to prevent the Minx Go from falling over.  Make sure you don’t forget to swivel the leg as it’s very unstable without it.

The front of the Minx Go is curved to project the sound around the environment you’re using it in.  The rear of the Minx Go is half covered in the bass producing radiator that vibrates like a jack hammer churning up the road.  This is not a bad thing and it makes for a pretty good sound from such a small unit, although I was surprised to see the Minx Go start to walk across my granite counter top when I first turned on the power, and that wasn’t near full volume.

The Minx Go is available in black or White.  The sample sent to us was the Black version with is a high gloss piano black finish that attracts fingerprints like bees to honey.  I can deal with the fingerprints as they easily wipe off and the look is very attractive and clean.

The Features

The Minx Go is pretty basic as far as controls go and compared to some other units we’ve tested.  On the top you’ll only find the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons with a Power button located between them.  No Forward or Reverse buttons and no Play or Pause buttons.  This simple approach works well and creates a very simple an elegant.

On the back of the Minx go you’ll find the connections for Charging, Aux Audio input and USB charging port that you can use to charge your phone while the Minx Go is plugged into an outlet.

The Sounds

Keeping pace with the Cambridge Audio heritage and quality, the Minx Go produces some very nice sounds from such a small package, which was not surprising given the Cambridge Audio heritage.  Cranking the volume from low to high gave the same clear audio with no evident distortion of reduction in quality.   My only concern, as previously mentioned, was the strength of the bass making the Minx Go walk around my kitchen table.  Placing the Minx go on our wooden deck was a different result ad the Minx Go stayed put so it’s related to the surface you use.

There is a lot of competition in this size portable speaker market, I haven’t reviewed anything for the same size and price that produces the fullness of sound the Minx Go produces.  The Big Jambox is probably the closest and the recently reviewed JLab’s The Bouncer.

The Conclusion.

Cambridge Audio is very reputable company and they have produced an awesome Bluetooth Portable sound system with amazing battery life.  The build quality is incredibly solid and the sounds match the build.  I’d have no hesitation in recommending the Cambridge Audio Minx Go and feel confident that you won’t be disappointed.  Don’t forge the amazing battery life as well.  You can take this bad boy anywhere and be confident that you’ll be pumping out music all day long.
