Former Windows Phone GM hired by Amazon

Share

According to The Verge, former Microsoft Windows Phone GM, Charlie Kindel, announced that he has been hired by Amazon. Listing his role as director of “something secret” on his LinkedIn profile, Kindel is wasting no time and is already courting mobile developers and testers, with the hopes of building “a new team going after a totally new area for Amazon.”

Going after a totally new area for Amazon.

Kindel left Microsoft in 2011 to begin his own start-up, and this new appointment undoubtedly increases speculation that Amazon will soon launch its own smartphone. We reported in December last year that Amazon may be working on an Android-based smartphone for 2013, and with Kindel joining the team, this rumor may be closer to truth. If you remember, Kindel worked closely with mobile developers while at Microsoft, and was the key to evangelizing the Windows Phone platform. These are important skills that could definitely help Amazon move into the handset market.

Make sure to check back often, as we will keep you updated with any new information as it is released.
