Our Top 4 Gadgets From The Mobile World Congress 2013

Share

mcw2012The Mobile World Congress 2013 is done and dusted, but the technology it showed off is going to keep on shining for a long time to come. Barcelona’s show dazzled with the latest tech and gadgetry with hardly any disappointment. We’ve taken a look around the whole event and have picked out some of our favorites for your below. We’ll take a look at some of the tech that really stood out from the crowd.

Cybernetics

We couldn’t keep from being amazed at all the cybernetic advances. We’re not talking Terminator style stuff just yet, but it’s easy to see that on the horizon, the idea of integrated intelligence into every day mobile devices is going to be main stream. From wrist watches that are sleek, stylish, and able to monitor your basic vital statistics to apps that are actively tracking eye movement for control, the cybernetics at MWC were fabulous. It’s easy to see that the direction of mobile is going along the lines of making life better and easier

Single Function Emergency Phones

Another idea that took us up was the idea of a single function phone. We’re not sure how well it would do in the main stream market, with the demands focusing on smart phones and their loads of apps, but we definitely see a segment that’s open to a specific purpose. And the single function emergency phone really seemed like a great idea. Particularly for certain segments who don’t want to get too lost in tech. The Spare One, an emergency only phone, boasts a battery life of 15 years, and has a huge red button that does one thing: Contact emergency personnel. There is a definite plus to this kind of thinking. Simple, effective, and directed.

Budget Friendly Phones

On the line of phones, we also noted that one theme taking center stage were simpler, more cost effective phones. The technology, similar to the Spare One concept, is that more is not always better. And you don’t have to scale completely down on the functionality to get there. We checked out a few entries in the scalable market, and were particularly impressed with the budget friendly phones. Sure, there were plenty of super phones on display, but the budget segment looked like it was setting up to fill a market segment that has been underserved.

Watches Making a Comeback

We sat up and took notice of the IM watch. Its functionality goes well beyond what you may expect in a wrist watch, and we noticed that it takes on some of the functionality of modern tablets and smart phone technology. It’s a little bulky, but still, it’s sleek for what it does and the convenience of a wrist device was duly noted.

MWC 2013 brought a lot of great ideas to the spotlight. And we’re excited to dig a little deeper into some of the mobile tech. More to come.
