Google may turn to Qualcomm as the chipmaker of choice for the next-generation Nexus 7, reports  Pacific Crest analyst Michael McConnel. Citing supply chain issues and competitive pricing, Google could be leaving NVIDIA and the Tegra 4 out of the tablet.

Supply chain conversations indicate two reasons for Google’s selection of the Snapdragon APQ8064 over Tegra 4: competitive pricing, and a decision to single-source the application processor and 3G/4G modem to simplify logistics and create a fully pin-compatible platform interface.” – Analyst Michael McConnell

Additional details for the Nexus 7 are expected to include a true HD display and thinner bezel however everything else is still unclear. Google I/O 2013 takes place in May and many are anticipating a new model or refreshed version of the Nexus 7.  Presumably, this will also be running the newest version of Android – Key Lime Pie. Let’s also hope that the next edition comes with a 4G LTE variant as well.
