5 Apps for Rooted Devices

Share

After rooting your device, there are so many new features to explore, lets start with a few of the first apps you should download. Since rooting allows you to customize your device even more, these apps allow you to really tweak your phone out to the max.

unnamed-1Rom Manager: Rom Manger is probably one of the most important apps for any rooted user. Rom Manager allows you to manage backups, roms, and custom recoveries. Basically, this app helps to simplify the entire process of flashing and managing custom Roms. The app is initially free, although you will have to pay $5.99 to receive rom update notifications, nightly rom downloads, and an ad free application.

unnamed-4Root Explorer: Root Explorer is my personal favorite application for managing my files, you can zip/unzip files, edit root folders, and access device info easily. Root Explorer allows you to do tasks like change your device info to run apps (Google Wallet on Verizon, etc) that were not intended for the said device. This is another must have in the world of Android rooting. Root Explorer costs $3.99 on the Play store with no free version available.

unnamed-5Titanium Backup: If you plan on flashing any custom roms, you will without-a-doubt need this application. Titanium Backup allows you to make a complete 100% backup of all your applications and system data. You can then use this data to restore all of your apps once to have successfully flashed to a new rom. Titanium Backup is free on the play store with an optional “Pro Key” for $6.85. Buy the pro key! Titanium Backup is definitely one of the best apps I have ever purchased and has saved me hours and hours of time.

unnamed-2SetCPU: SetCPU falls right into the “customization” category of Android applications. SetCPU allows you to change the clock speed of your device and if you are on a custom kernel, you can even overclock your device. Tweaking your devices clock speed to have pretty major affects on your device as far as performance and battery life goes. With SetCPU’s simple user interface, you are just a few taps away from saving a few hours of battery or making your phone faster than ever. SetCPU will run you just $1.99 on the play store.

unnamed-3WiFi Tether: WiFi Tether is very self explanatory, it allows you to tether your phone’s data connection to a wifi enable device. WiFi Tether has been my go to app since the days of the Droid X and now with my S3′s 4G connection, my laptop and nexus 7 will never be offline again. You can also create a security id, mange your network name, and manage the connected devices. Best part of all, WiFi Tether is free on the play store. Be careful, some networks will see the spike in data usage and throttle your data speeds.
