Back in December, Samsung revealed the Galaxy Grand but didn’t say when it would be launching. If you’ve been looking forward to the handset and happen to live in India, then today your wait is over. Samsung launched the handset in India today, bringing on its dual SIM functionality and 5-inch display to the masses.
Aesthetically, the phone looks a lot like a slightly bigger Galaxy S III, though it’s missing some of the high-end specs of Samsung’s flagship. The Galaxy Grand only ships with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, has 1GB of RAM under the hood, a 2,100mAh battery, and 8GB of internal storage. That 5-inch TFT display has a resolution of just 480×800, so we have a feeling that the technophiles of the world aren’t going to find much value in these specs.
Still, with dual SIM support, this phone is aimed more at the business world than it is at the tech enthusiast. With dual SIM functionality, Galaxy Grand owners can use two SIM cards in their handset, blurring the lines between a work device and personal device. To aid in multitasking, the Galaxy Grand also offers a multi-window feature, which was one of the major selling points of the Galaxy Note II.
Running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, the Galaxy Grand comes with a price tag of 21,500 Indian Rupees, which equates to just about $400. There’s no word on if the Galaxy Grand will be launching in other markets, but perhaps we’ll find out more about device when we make the trek to Barcelona next month for MWC 2013? Stay tuned.
