Plex launches native app for Windows 8

If you’ve never quite been happy with Microsoft‘s own Media Center offering for their Windows platform, there’s a ton of third-party alternatives. Plex is one of the few that stands out, though, and they have Windows 8 that takes advantage of the OS’s modern UI (a.k.a. Metro).

The Plex app is Surface tablet with Windows RT.

Windows 8 Plex users will have access to the myPlex queue, and even the latest filtering features that haven’t yet made their way to other platforms yet, so Windows 8 users will be the first to try them out. The app also has a background art slideshow, and a “gorgeous” On Deck section that displays TV shows and movies that you have yet watch.

Plex says that they’re “huge fans” of the Microsoft Windows 8 interface, so it seems that the team has put a lot of resources into the app in order to make it the best, and hopefully users will see that. They said that the app is slightly based off of the Windows Phone 7 app, so veteran users will most likely be familiar with some of the interface tweaks right off the bat.
