Back in June of 2012 we talked about the new Matrox DS1 Thunderbolt docking stations. If you were excited about being able to get your hands on a Thunderbolt docking station aimed at Mac computers, it’s been a long wait. That wait is finally over with Matrox announcing the official availability for the DS1 docking stations.
The Matrox DS1 series of docking stations is now available in the Americas. The DS1 series of Thunderbolt docking stations are aimed at MacBook Pro and MacBook Air users. The docking stations allow the MacBook notebook users to add a variety of peripherals including displays, keyboards, and a mouse using only one Thunderbolt port for connectivity.
The DS1 family docking stations also has a gigabit Ethernet port for connecting to a wired network and a USB 3.0 port on the front. The device also has a pair of USB 2.0 ports on the back, a microphone input, and a speaker or headphone output. The DS1 series of docking stations comes with two different versions.
The only difference in the two versions of the DS1 docking station available is the types of computer monitors supported. One version of the Matrox DS1 supports DVI monitors and the other supports HDMI displays. Either version is available for $249 in the United States and Americas with global availability set for early January 2013.
