Getac Z710 lays claim to being toughest ever Android tablet

UPDATE: UK pricing confirmed
Getac Z710

Getac has unveiled its 7-inch Getac Z710 device, adding that it’s “the world’s most compact and robust Android tablet”.

Judging by the official press shots, it certainly looks like it could hold its own, with a rubberised shell encasing the entire device. The screen is tough, too, with Getac opting for a Gorilla Glass display while the device itself weighs in at a hefty 800 grams.

However, what should prove useful – particularly with people who work outdoors – is that the capacitive touch display can still be used even when wearing gloves, thanks to Getac’s LumiBondTM technology. The manufacturer has also gone to lengths to reduce the glare on the screen caused by sunlight.

Though the Getac Z710 is certainly more brawn than brain – it only runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread for example – there are still some worthy attributes under the bonnet. For example, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G are all present and correct. There’s also a 5-megapixel camera and Getac says we can expect up to 10 hours of battery life.?

The Z710 has been awarded IP65 certification, which backs up Getac’s tough claims, and though the feature set might not be high end, we could see this tablet proving rather useful on a building site, for example.?

The Getac Z710 will be hitting European markets shortly though at present there’s no word on pricing.

UPDATE: Getac has told Pocket-lint that?pricing for the Getac Z710 for the UK starts at ?709.
