chromecast_720If you’re a Chromecast owner, then you just got a little present from some hardworking Android developers. Make that, a big present since 10 new apps have been added to the “Chromecast family.”

According to Google, starting today you can enjoy more photos, videos and music on your large screen thanks to Avia, Plex, RealPlayer, VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3 and BeyondPod.

Out of all of these apps, two that are especially exciting are Avia and Plex, which allow you to steam content that’s stored locally,  plus Avia supports content stored in the cloud.

With Avia, from a company called Videon in State College, Pa., the app is free, but you need to complete a $2.99 in-app purchase to enable casting to your Chromecast. You can then cast your locally stored photos, videos and music or those in the cloud on either Facebook, Dropbox or Picasa (now Google+ Photos).

At the moment, Plex will only allow you to cast your videos, but will be adding support for photos and music soon. Plex is $4.99 in the Play Store.

To cast from these apps, make sure you have the latest versions, this goes for any subsequent iOS apps as well, and for more information, check out the sources below.
