tmobile_carly_720T-Mobile today announced that the FCC has officially given the go ahead on the proposed T-Mobile and MetroPCS merger. Initially announced in October 2012, the two carriers are hoping to join and offer shared spectrum portfolios, and roll out a better 4G LTE experience

“We are pleased with the FCC’s approval of the proposed transaction,” said Roger D. Linquist, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of MetroPCS. “We thank the FCC for its prompt review of our proposed combination with T-Mobile, which will create the value leader in the United States wireless marketplace.”

All that stands in the way of the merger is stockholder approval by MetroPCS’s board. A Special Meeting is slated to take place on April 12, 2013.
