LG CES 2013 press announcement ‘Touch the Smart Life’

Share

lg-pressAs expected, LG got things going this year with the keynote address where they introduced a number of new products. While not all of them are mobile related, they’re cool nonetheless. The phrase of the year for LG is ‘Touch the Smart Life’ which means LG will be fusing technologies and hardware together to provide a seamless experience. Whether it be a touch display on your refrigerator or an NFC enabled washer and dryer, it’s all about touching and interacting with devices.

The focus for the new era of LG products is on ensuring they are free and natural, breathtaking, and stress-free. This covers all range of products including appliances, televisions, and mobile devices. Stream content from your smartphone to your TV, tap the NFC tag on your washing machine to adjust settings, or change the channel with your finger by waving it in the air. Check your fridge contents from the store, get recipes, and create shopping lists. All of this is a reality for LG in 2013.

James Fishler, head of marketing in U.S., tells us that ‘smart’ is not simply a word that implies newer and next-generation hardware. This includes washing machines that save 20 minutes off a load and more natural 4:3 aspect ratio (Optimus Vu/Intuition) for mobile. The 2013 product line is going to include NFC connections to talk with smartphone. Wanna start the automated vacuum while you’re on the way home? Need to set the oven to bake a turkey or a specific recipe? Set it with your phone and monitor them from the LG mobile device.

Sorry, no new Android devices

Despite rumors to the contrary, LG did not unveil any new smartphones or tablets. Promising new device announcements for Mobile World Congress, they only alluded to different sizes and form factors. Looks like we’ll be waiting a few more weeks before we see the rumored 5.5-inch Optimus G2. That said, they did take a few minutes to tell us how awesome the Optimus Vu//Intuition is and how we really should consider the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Google TV

LG is expanding their Android-based Google TV line with seven new models across a variety of sizes. This, of course, was expected as LG already announced the new models some days ago. This is the third generation of Google TV and is part of a growing, if not renewed, relationship with Google.
